Recap: Labor of Love Episode 7
On this week’s episode, Kristy gets to visit the cities of the last three men standing - Kyle in Austin, Marcus (the doctor) in Cincinnati and Stewart in Los Angeles. Each guy will show Kristy their homes and introduce her to a few friends. The theme of this episode is AWKWARD!!! As if this show wasn’t awkward enough.
Side note: Kristin Davis is way too happy on this episode, maybe it’s because we’re one step closer for this train wreck to be over.
Kyle lives in Austin, TX. He’s the youngest of the remaining men and Kristy thinks his Air Force experience is a plus. Kyle says he and Kristin came up with their date but when they get to the top of the hill at the park, Kyle is just as shocked as Kristy that it’s a child birthing class. WTF, both Kristy and Kyle are unprepared for this…. They must have forgotten this is a show to find a baby daddy. Remember the contraction challenge. The class is basically a lot of massaging and booty rubbing. They both seem very uncomfortable with all this touching. There is another couple in the class and the dad is promoting raising kids in Austin. Next they have a bbq with some of Kyle’s friends. They even have team Kyle and Kristy T-shirts, who’s idea was that? One of the friends is really selling Kyle to Kristy - it was very awkward. Can we talk about Kristy’s cowboy boots… is that required when you visit Texas. It starts to rain so the party if over and they head to Kyle’s apartment. It is small, but to be fair to Kyle, he’s a bachelor, he’s probably never home and just needs a place to sleep. Kristy comments on the size of the apartment and wonders if he is really ready to have kids. While hanging out in the bedroom, Kyle calls Kristy a unicorn because she’s never been married and doesn’t have any kids. But Kristy has been married, will that be a deal breaker for Kyle. Of course not because his mom is divorced so how can he judge. There’s some awkward bed rolling and Kyle calls Kristy the woman of his dreams and he would be heartbroken if he was sent home.
Onto Cincinnati to meet Marcus, the doctor. Kristy still thinks Marcus is trying to win a competition not have kids. Their activity is a school tour, they meet the principal and read a book to a pre-school class. During recess, they leave to go to Marcus’ home. During the tour, Marcus says his mom visits often and has her own room, I wonder if Kristy caught that. If she didn’t, she’s about to meet Marcus’ House Mom. What is a house mom???? Diana helps with the chores and is his family/support system. And he’s like the son she doesn’t have. Why didn’t Marcus introduce Kristy to any of his friends. Does he have any friends? And if this wasn’t awkward enough, he tries on some colorful pants for Diana to have altered. What is going on here. Kristy thinks Marcus is a little boy who needs a mommy. She tries to get the goods on him from Diana but she’s not giving up any information. Maybe she’s signed a NDA? Kristy is still concerned about last episode’s antics but they had an amazing first date and still have chemistry.
Last stop, LA with Stewart. They go to his apartment first and Kristy loves the space because they have similar styles but it is a one bedroom. Stewart can see them creating a beautiful landscape together. Stewart wants to show her the kid friendly LA so they go house shopping. They spend time in a show house to see what life would look like if they were to get together and have kids. Stewart’s friends are another couple and Kristy explain the premise of the show, the friends try not to look surprised. The wife also froze her eggs so the two women now they have a bond. Here’s the awkward moment. Stewart asks Kristy if she’s considered what it takes to raise a mixed child. Kristy is very uncomfortable with this question and turns it on Stewart and he says of course he’s thought about it. I was waiting for when they would bring up this topic. Stewart tells a story of an ex girlfriend who was caucasian and her family didn’t want to meet him because he was black. Kristy wants to cry. She’s naive and it never occurred to her. She also thinks it would be a non issue for a child. She clearly doesn’t have any friends in interracial relationships nor with biracial children. She says Stewart is such a gentleman and does everything right. He takes her back to the hotel and tells her he’d like to spend the night, she declines. Stewart says if Kristy doesn’t pick him, he will never find love. So dramatic.
All three guys go to Kristy’s city of Chicago. Kyle thinks Marcus is fake and doesn’t have real feelings for Kristy. Stewart doesn’t think any of the guys are his competition. Kristin returns to tell them there will be an elimination before Kristy shows them her city. There is a mash up of the three one on one dates, talking about their time together. But it is Marcus who gets the boot. Maybe Diana the house mom that was the dealbreaker.
Marcus says her feelings are too strong to trust (what?) and he wanted to win because she’s pretty and a good kisser. Basic traits you want in the mother of your children. He says she only sees what she wants to see and should get some self confidence because she’s 41 years old. Marcus is clearly a sore loser.
See ya Marcus, good luck on your journey. If that family thing doesn’t work out and you find you’re happier with your childfree life, shoot me an email and come on the podcast!
And there you go…. The latest episode of Labor of Love, airing Thursdays on Fox. What do you think? Was Marcus only playing the game? Who’s your choice to win?
